About the Knowledge Update
The National Obesity Observatory has produced a weekly knowledge update since June 2010. The aim of the KU is to communicate relevant developments and information on obesity and its determinants. The updates are short (usually between 1-3 pages) and contain: a sift of the latest national and international research publications; reports; tools and data updates; new resources and announcements from NOO.
Knowledge Update search strategy:
- Primary research publications are shortlisted from a weekly pubmed search [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/] using the search term obes* (all fields). Articles are hand selected for relevance to public health, therefore papers which focus on clinical practice, basic science and non human studies are usually excluded.
- Obesity related news items are extracted from BBC Health and NHS Choices ‘Behind the headlines’ RSS feeds.
- New reports, data sources and tools are selected from the NOO website, which provides links to relevant national and international reports and documents.
- NOO announcements, alerts readers to the latest information and data from NOO.
Accessing papers:
Following a recent user survey, NOO was made aware that a number of papers were not available to some Knowledge Update subscribers. Unfortunately the National Obesity Observatory can only provide links to the abstracts and free text publications where available. NOO has no control over journal access or individual or institutional journal subscriptions. However the National Obesity Observatory team now alerts readers to open access papers, where available, with the text FREE ARTICLE.
